This is a Lutheran church and dominates Akureyri. You can see it from from a distance. You walk up 112 stone steps to enter it. Inside there is dark wood panelling with white walls. It is very dramatic. The main attraction is the stained glass windows behind the altar, which originally were in the old Coventry Cathedral and made their way to Iceland by some amazing co-incidences. Hanging from the ceiling is a model ship, which follows the old Norse tradition of protecting sailors.
